Book #1 of a 3 Book Series
Book Summary:
“How did you two meet?”
It’s the quintessential question asked to every couple, and the answer is usually some bubbly, lovey-dovey tale of being struck in the bum by Cupid’s arrow. But Lottie Gardner’s meet-cute was a little different. She was trolling a wealthy neighborhood in Beverly Hills, searching for someone to take her as his bride―you know, to make the arch nemesis who just fired her jealous. And billionaire Huxley Cane was conveniently stomping around the block like some sort of gorgeous ogre, mumbling about a business deal gone wrong.
That’s when they bump into each other.
No sparks. No fireworks. Not even the first seed of blossoming love.
But the next thing Lottie knows, she’s scarfing down chips and guac, listening to Huxley lay out his problems, and then he tells her: He lied to a crucial client, and he needs a huge favor. A fake fiancée. He’s talking living in his mansion together, going on intimate double-dates, and pretending they’re head-over-heels in love…and engaged.
It’s ridiculous, but people do ridiculous things when they’re desperate. And Lottie and Huxley both reek of desperation. So, she strikes up the deal.
Except her one mistake might be accidentally falling for the incomparable, insufferable Huxley Cane.
Mini Review:
This is the first book I have read by Meghan Quinn, and I devoured it in less than 36 hours! I never wanted to put it down, and when I had to, it constantly occupied my mind. I am always on the fence with the enemies-to-lovers trope, but Quinn nailed it. I had no idea how she was going to pull off an HEA with Huxley and Lottie. Their whole situation was like nothing I have ever read. I was hooked from the beginning! The banter, the snark, the fighting, the intensity, and spice – she gave the reader all of it and then some. Some of the best parts were the conversations between Huxley and his brothers (meaning I am definitely going to read the other two books in the Cane Brothers series). The antics Huxley and Lottie go through still crack me up! There were moments that were so downright hilarious that I had tears in my eyes and pains in my stomach from laughing so hard. Not only was the book hysterical, it was also emotionally intense. You felt everything Lottie was going through – her wins, her losses, her hurt, all of it. The way Meghan connects you on every level with her characters shows her incredible writing talent. I can’t wait to read more by her, but my first stop is the remaining two books in this series. I have to see if anything happens between JP and Kelsey, and the joy of a Cane Brother group text chat just can’t be beat!
