Mini Review:

“Beneath the Ice” was intense. The long-standing issue I have with L.A. Cotton’s writing is the sheer redundancy to elongate the book, but her ability to make you love and want to protect her characters trumps anything else. We have watched Ella and Connor through a prequel and two books before we revisited their story. As Noah said, they are the OG couple—Ella was the first Laker girlfriend and stood alone for 10 months before Dayna joined the group. We always saw the highs of their relationship, but seeing the lows made it less of a fairytale and more real.

Morgan’s journey to recover was two-thirds of the book, but if you had read them in order, the first third was so ominous that you just wanted him to get injured to get it over with. Saying you were on pins and needles waiting for the moment would be an understatement. Ella deserves an award, though. Again, agreeing with Noah, she put up with more than any woman should have to, and I applaud her self-control after the way she was treated by outside forces.

It has been such a gift being a part of the Laker family, and if the epilogue has anything to say, Austin’s story is not going to come easy for him. But as the last man standing, I’m sure L.A. Cotton is going to take me for one heck of a ride.
