Book #1 of a 3 Book Series
Book Summary:
The first rule of serving as the maid of honor at your perfect sister’s destination wedding? No mistakes. The second rule? No drama.
For Jess Chavez, a week in Maui is hardly a dream vacation—not when her sister expects her to be the perfect maid of honor. Not only does Jess have to fake perfection, but she can’t let anyone know she’s unemployed and barely scraping by. Above all, she needs to steer clear of Connor Blackwood, the sexy groomsman who broke her heart five years ago.
A family wedding offers Connor the ideal opportunity to convince everyone he’s no longer an irresponsible playboy. If they see he’s changed, they might support his decision to leave the family winery and strike out on his own. With so much at stake, the last thing he needs is an alluring distraction like Jess.
When Jess and Connor end up together, exploring the island’s lush, tropical beauty, the sparks between them become impossible to ignore. Throwing caution to the wind, they decide to make their own rules.
Five days of passion. No strings. No tears. No promises.
What could possibly go wrong?
Mini Review:
An all expense paid week in Maui would be paradise for anyone! Anyone except Jess who has to endure a sister competing for most terrifying Bridezilla EVER! That isn’t even the worse of it, she would deal with a hundred versions of her sister before she could even fathom facing Connor, the man who gave her the best two week of her life and then walked out of it five years ago, leaving her heartbroken and confused. That was then and this is now, she just needs to make it through the week and be the best maid of honor her sister could ask for (even if she was second pick). Doesn’t matter, all that matters is she is there for her sister, avoids Connor, and hides that she lost her job and may be moving back home. She can do this. She needs to do this! She’s doomed….
Blue Hawaiian was a quirky romantic comedy that brought out the best and worst in everyone. Connor was battling the mistakes of his past and trying to prove he wasn’t the same person. Jess was being forced to face the only man she ever loved who nearly destroyed her. Gabi is so determined to prove that she belongs among the ultra rich, ultra chic that she is nearly killing herself to provide the perfect wedding. Marc deserves a Congressional Medal of Honor or Sainthood for putting up with her (sounds mean but tell me you don’t agree after you finish the book). Throw in a judgmental father, a horrible brother, an overbearing mother, and alcohol and that week had disaster written all over it! I did enjoy how much Connor was determined to control himself and how delusional Jess was to believe she could have a fling, despite all the proof Connor presented to her. What was cute though is that each one of them were determined to talk circles around their feelings and live in a state of denial. It really was a contest of who would crack first and from what!
Blue Hawaiian kept my attention from beginning to end. A little predictable at times but the curve balls here and there kept it fresh. While I don’t think I will continue the series, I would definitely recommend it to those who love Brody as much as I did and want to see him get his HEA (book #2).

About the Book Author
Carla Luna
Carla Luna was born in Los Angeles but spent most of her childhood on Vancouver Island, B.C., surrounded by beaches and forests. Her love for writing started at the tender age of eight when she wrote a short story about three witches who debated the best way to spend Halloween (riding broomsticks vs riding vacuum cleaners). In college, she studied history and archaeology and was fortunate enough to work on digs all over the world. She still dreams of traveling to far-off places and now channels that wanderlust into her stories.
Her love of romance began when she discovered the rack of Harlequin romances at the library where she worked as a teen. From there, she moved on to steamy historical epics and Gothic romances set on windswept moors. At present, she writes contemporary romance and romantic comedies with a dollop of humor and a pinch of spice.
When she’s not writing, she works in a spice emporium where she gets paid to discuss food and share her favorite recipes. Her passions include baking, Broadway musicals, whimsical office supplies, and listening to pop culture podcasts. She currently resides in Wisconsin with her family and her feisty Siberian cat.
