Book #1 of a 9 Book Series
Book Summary:
Heath
It’s a classic story: Boy meets girl, girl breaks boy’s heart, boy pretends to be gay to get back at girl, girl outs boy to everyone on Facebook…
Okay, maybe it’s not that classic. But it’s what happened to me.
When I bump into my cheating ex and catch sight of the moon-sized rock on her finger, there’s only one option to save face: pretend to be dating my gay best friend, Declan.
And when she outs me on Facebook and everyone I know sees it, there’s still only one option: keep pretending to be dating Declan.
And when Declan and I have to kiss to keep up the ruse and it turns out there’s actually a spark between us (more like a blazing inferno, if truth be told) there’s once again only one option…
Mini Review:
Every once in a while, I find a series and get completely sucked into it. The last one was Neve Wilder’s Extracurricular Activities series, and the one before that was the Him series by Elle Kennedy and Sarina Bowen. When I started this series, I just knew I was one and done – there was no way I would want to read all nine books. HA! I don’t think I finished the first chapter before realizing I was in trouble. Out of all nine, this one was by far my favorite, solely because of Heath. I absolutely love him! He has zero filter and says exactly what he is thinking (I mean just a straight “id” type brain) with not a care in the world. Even writing this, I find myself laughing out loud at some of the things that came out of his mouth throughout the series (Isla made sure to keep him an active character is subsequent books). Pair him with Declan, and you just can’t help but fall in love with the two of them and the Kelly clan.
In this particular book, Declan and Heath have been best friends since college. Heath runs into his ex, and to save face, decides to tell her he is dating his gay best friend Declan. Given that Heath is straight, Declan – being the wonderful person he is and knowing what went down with Heath’s ex – decides to play along, if for nothing else, but a good laugh. What they weren’t expecting was a social media post that would “out” their budding relationship! Instead of confessing the truth, Heath doubles down and convinces Declan to keep the fake relationship going for a little while longer, with an eventual breakup planned. When a staged kiss at a family event ignites an unknown chemistry between them, the spice goes full throttle, and you can’t help but devour this book. Throw in the quirky family dynamic, hilarious text chains, and the overall absurdity of the situation, and you will soon realize this is only the beginning of the insanity this family can create!
