Mini Review:

The “Wait, what?” moments in this book drove me nuts. You are there in the interaction, but then in the recollection of it, additional information is provided, making you second-guess yourself because you’re positive it wasn’t mentioned the first time. For example, Daisy tells Belmont she is from California, but when he regurgitates the information he knows about her, he says Santa Monica, California—you know she only said California. Similarly, with the second kiss, they make it seem like a simple kiss, but later you find out he copped a feel, and you know full well that is not how it was presented. It makes it slightly frustrating because it makes you wonder what other pertinent information is being skipped over that will be divulged later.

This one was a little too far-fetched for me. It held my attention until the last two chapters, and then it just waved goodbye to any sense of reasoning. The characters you grew to like or love just lost all respect, from Belmont’s attitude and blatant disrespect towards Daisy to Daisy’s lack of a backbone, along with the anti-climactic resolution. I felt like the author spent far too much time on non-essential sub-stories that she ran out of time to properly wrap up Belmont and Daisy. Unfortunately, this is one I definitely won’t recommend.

Ok – stop reading now if you don’t want spoilers!

The book really started to go downhill in the third-to-last chapter. The author could have easily kept Pete a likable character with Daisy’s heart devoted to Belmont; instead, he made him really slimy. First, he was a peeping Tom, which we could easily brush off as accidental, but then to find out he is a recently divorced father with an eight-year-old daughter, and he essentially felt up an unconscious woman—yeah, completely unnecessary. She did the same thing to Charlie in earlier chapters with what seemed like an underage or just barely legal girl. It was as if the author’s logic was to make the other men interested in Daisy more disgusting rather than improving upon Belmont and just trusting we bought the quick connection, intense chemistry, and possibility of true love or soulmates. She didn’t have to paint other males characters in such a depraved light.

It also bothered me how nonchalant Daisy was about all of Belmont’s infractions. He blatantly lied to her about sleeping with her best friend, she forgave him without receiving an explanation as to why his tongue was down another woman’s throat, and she just looked the other way when the two people she despised the most outed his past profession—something it seemed like he didn’t intend to tell her. Again, all of this she just shrugged off as an overreaction, which was asinine.
