Finding Mr. Write

First Romantic Comedy From Fantasy Writer Kelley Armstrong

Book Summary:

Daphne McFadden already knows that as a female author, the cards are stacked against her. Now she knows just how much. Because her sudden whim to pose as an “outdoorsy hunk of masculinity” male author for her new book just resulted in the unthinkable: a bidding war, a huge book deal, and the kind of fame every author dreams of. Now she’s in big trouble. Because she needs to convince the world that Zane Remington actually exists . . . but how?

By hiring an actor, of course.

Only Chris Stanton is not an actor—not officially. He’s used to balancing the books, not pretending he wrote one. Still, he’s mostly certain he can pose as some overly macho bro-author. But when the media descend on Daphne’s gorgeous remote home in the Yukon, it’s not enough for Chris to just be the face of Zane Remington—he’ll have to become him. All while hilariously balancing the terrifying dangers of the wilderness, a massive femme fandom, and a serious crush on Daphne. But as the hype circus gets more out of control, it’s just a matter of time before someone discovers their little write lie . . .

Mini Review:

First, it breaks my heart to learn how much truth was behind Daphne’s journey to becoming a published author while trying to publish her zombie apocalypse book. Sadly, I have heard the exact same struggles from men when attempting to publish contemporary romances – as if the ability to write, create, and imagine in various genres has invisible gender boundaries.

In either case, Finding Mr. Write was a pleasant surprise! Being the first romantic comedy written by Kelley Armstrong, she nailed it. Chris’s inner voice is what completely made this book for me. There was a part with him and Daphne in the woods that had me laughing so hard I had to read it again – and again! I even read it out loud to a friend of mine.

What I loved most about this book was the time and energy Kelley took to build out these characters. We felt like we knew them, understood that inner GPS that kept trying to guide them but failed miserably, and even those in their lives who played a part in bringing their story together. It also gives you a front-row seat to all that comes with being a bestselling author and how much you give up just to get the chance to live your dream.

I will admit I was surprised by the spice in this book. I was positive this was a closed-door romance, and then suddenly that door was flung wide open! Usually, when spice shows up that far into the book, it doesn’t feel like it fits, but in this case, Kelley did a great job showing its relevance instead of making it feel like it was just stuffed in there for the sake of being spicy.

About the Book Author

Kelley Armstrong

Kelley Armstrong believes experience is the best teacher, though she’s been told this shouldn’t apply to writing her murder scenes. To craft her books, she has studied aikido, archery and fencing. She sucks at all of them. She has also crawled through very shallow cave systems and climbed half a mountain before chickening out. She is however an expert coffee drinker and a true connoisseur of chocolate-chip cookies.
