Good Boy

Book #1 in a 2 Book Series

Book Summary:

Hosting her brother’s wedding for an MVP guest list is the challenge of Jess Canning’s life. Already the family screw-up, she can’t afford to fail. And nobody (nobody!) can learn of the colossal mistake she made with the best man during a weak moment last spring. It was wrong, and there will not be a repeat. Absolutely not. Even if he is the sexiest thing on two legs.

Blake Riley sees the wedding as fate’s gift to him. Jess is the maid of honor and he’s the best man? Let the games begin. So what if he’s facing a little (fine, a lot) of resistance? He just needs to convince the stubborn blonde that he’s really a good boy with a bad rap. Luckily, every professional hockey player knows that you’ve got to make an effort if you want to score.

But Jess has more pressing issues to deal with than sexy-times with a giant man-child. Such as: Will the ceremony start on time, even though someone got grandma drunk? Does glitter ever belong at a wedding? And is it wrong to murder the best man?

Mini Review:

I will warn that to really know Blake Riley, you HAVE to read Him and Us that was also written by this duo. I read this book first and Blake drove me nuts the first couple of chapters. I just did not like his character at all. I thought he was overly arrogant, too “bro-ish” and essentially everything Jessica also thought. When I went back and read Him and Us, it TOTALLY changed my perspective of him! I met him through Wes and Jamie’s eyes and he is just a big ol’ lovable teddy bear that you can’t help but adore! When I went back and read the first few chapters again of Good Boy, knowing Blake and the Canning family better, it completely changes the characters in your mind. Blake is no longer abrasive and loud. Jessica is also not the victim of an intimidating family. The Cannings are the most loving, encouraging, and accepting people on the planet so you realize quickly that a lot of Jessica’s inner struggles are her own insecurities in the voice of her family. If you haven’t figured it out yet, Good Boy is a continuation of the Him Series. While it is a standalone, as mentioned above – I found my clarity of the characters having read the Him Series and wish I had found it first before reading this one.

Blake and Jessica together are the best representation of a magnetic connection. As much as she doesn’t want anything to do with Blake, she can’t help her attraction to him. Blake can’t fathom a world where a woman doesn’t want him so the obstacles he has to jump through to get to Jessica are hilarious. As always Kennedy heart is front and center so when we learn more about Blake and the marriage that never was and just what type of person he really is – if you hadn’t fallen in love with him from the Him Series you will now.

The Wag series hasn’t been as amazing as the Him series so far but I definitely want to read Ericsson’s story in Stay (another team mate we met in the Him Series).
