Debut Novel by Falon Ballard
Book Summary:
After getting passed over for an overdue—and much-needed—promotion, Sadie Green is in desperate need of three things: a stiff drink, a new place to live, and a one-night stand. But when an accidental mix-up lands her on the doorstep of Jack Thomas’s gorgeous Brooklyn brownstone, it’s too bad Sadie is more attracted to the impressive real estate than she is to the man himself.
Jack, still grieving the unexpected death of his parents, has learned to find comfort in video games and movie marathons instead of friends. So while he doesn’t know just what to make of the vivaciously verbose Sadie, he’s willing to offer her his spare bedroom while she gets back on her feet. And with the rent unbeatably low, Sadie can finally pursue her floristry side hustle full-time. The two are polar opposites, but as Sadie’s presence begins to turn the brownstone into a home, they both start to realize they may have just made the deal of a lifetime.
My Review:
Sadie Green has finally reached the day it will all pay off. After six years of no vacations and unpaid overtime, she is about to receive the promotion she truly deserves (and desperately needs – those students loans aren’t going to pay themselves off). Unfortunately, nepotism rears its ugly head and after slipping into true Sadie form (speak first, think second), she is out of a job. To blow off some steam, Sadie goes out with her friends and decides that a brain swimming in alcohol can’t possibly dwell on the events of the day. She also decides to put an end to her dry spell and cracks open her long neglected dating app, instantly matching with someone for a much desired one night stand. Apparently, three sheets to the wind, a roommate matching app looks a lot like a dating app and Sadie accidentally (and embarrassingly) comes crashing into the world of Jack Thomas. Bringing together two people who couldn’t be more opposite, Sadie decides to move into Jack’s brownstone and you can only image what follows in this warm and insanely charming roommates to lovers romantic comedy.
As there is an AMAZING review already residing in the Romantic Comedy Book Club Facebook Group, I will refrain from writing a full one here. I will simply say I read this book based on a group member’s feedback (click here to read it) and loved it! I truly enjoy when an author goes below the surface of the characters and you see real, relatable problems – a verbally abuse upbringing, grieving a horrific loss, concerns of potential racism when being in an interracial relationship, self-doubt, the fear of failing, therapy as it pertains to taking care of your mental health, and so much more. Falon succeeds at making her characters three-dimensional, deepening the story and the readers attachment. You want to stick with them to the end, you cheer with their highs and clutch your heart for their lows. In jest, I would say the only person that was remotely unrealistic was Jack – no man is THAT amazing. He is the unicorn, the fantasy, the ultimate of any woman! I actually found myself feeling jealous of Sadie for having someone like Jack in her life.
This book proves that everyone is deserving of happiness in their life and the only thing that stops you from reaching your full potential is you. Shut down that inner voice of negativity and embrace your capabilities. Having a fantastic support system doesn’t hurt either! I don’t think I have truly enjoyed a HEA as much I did with Lease on Love.

If she’s not busy wrangling her seven-year-old, you can probably find her drinking wine and posting a picture on Instagram while simultaneously snarking on Twitter, because multitasking!
