Nine Month Contract

Book #1 of a Three Book Series

Book Summary:

Help Wanted: Grumpy mountain man seeks baby momma. Job is an incubator position only. Surrogate must be impervious to grunting as the form of communication and nosy brotherly neighbors. Rustic mountain range housing available upon request.

I wanted to pummel my irritating brothers when they posted their own version of a wanted ad to help me with my life.

But I can’t fault the results once the right woman lands in my lap.

Becoming a single father is not a decision I made lightly. In fact, it’s the biggest decision of my entire life.

Which is why when I interview Trista, I know she’s perfect.

She’s wild, she’s opinionated, she wears cowboy boots. Even my pet goat loves her…

She’s the exact type of person I was holding out for.

And to my great horror, I realize on our first night of attempting this baby-making dance—when the lights are low, the cheap wine is flowing and the home-insemination supplies are laid out on the kitchen counter—I want to do a lot more than just make her my surrogate.

I want to make her mine.

Mini Review:

While I will admit the book had me hooked at the beginning, the slow-burn romance started to burn a little too slow for me, causing my interest to wane. Don’t get me wrong – the banter between Trista and Wyatt was priceless. Despite the hardships Trista faced (her backstory is absolutely gut-wrenching), you can’t help but love her zest for life, her attitude, and her determination to be independent and self-sufficient  -which causes some hilarious friction with Wyatt, who is DETERMINED to take care of the woman carrying his child.

When the story finally picked back up, it pulled me back in – especially as the pregnancy progressed and the number of animals on the mountain mysteriously began to increase. That was part of the fun. At first, you noticed the tracking of pregnancy weeks (which made perfect sense), but you also saw the number of animals being tracked – and it felt completely random until the book progressed and the hilarity of that situation became clear.

I’m not even going to comment on the spice – come on, it’s an Amy Daws book! Her scenes always melt the pages! But I will say it hurt my heart when you learned the two reasons motivating Wyatt’s desire to become a father. I was genuinely curious how Amy would turn things around, especially with Trista being so adamant about not wanting children. While I appreciated the resolution, it did feel like it jumped the shark a bit to get Trista there.

I’m still not sure if I’ll continue the series, but I’m excited to hear that Everly (Wyatt’s niece) is getting her own book. She was one of the highlights of this read for me! Well, her and the other two mountain men.
