On Thin Ice

Book #2 of a 4 Book Series

Book Summary:

When Harper Dixon discovers her father is the Lakeshore U Lakers new assistant coach, she wonders if her life can get any worse.

Enter Mason Steele.

Arrogant. Cold. With enough ice around his heart to freeze anyone who gets too close.

When Mason proposes one night to exorcise the fiery attraction between them, the last thing he expects is to wake up to an empty bed the next morning.

Or to find himself unable to get his new coach’s daughter out of his thoughts.

He’s Lakeshore U’s broody left winger with the weight of the world on his shoulders.
She’s vivacious, persistent, and has puck bunny written all over her.

Can Mason stick to his biggest rule and keep Harper out of his head—and his bed?

Or will she be able to prove to him that sometimes skating on thin ice is worth the risk?

Mini Review:

Skipping over the expected praise of this wonderful series (as I enjoyed the second book as much as the first), there is too much redundancy and reiteration when Cotton is trying to be ominous, especially in the middle chapters. I feel like it is done for length, but the story would still be just as strong if it was reduced by 50 to 100 pages. While I don’t believe it is that excessive, it does unnecessarily extend the story.

Aside from that, Mason and Harper’s story was sweet—predictable, but sweet. I absolutely loved Scottie and how he was a major dynamic in their interactions. I enjoyed that through Scottie, we got to see a side of Harper and Mason that they hid from everyone else. We also had a chance to check in on our favorite couples. The twist with Harper’s dad was gut-wrenching, but having gotten to know her over two books, you felt as if you understood her more and wanted her to have the happy ending she deserved.

As the third book goes back to Ella and Morgan, we didn’t really meet anyone new in this story, but we do have the pleasure of falling even harder for Morgan, Holden, and Steele. While we hung out with Austin Hart in the first story, he was surprisingly absent in this one, but it makes sense as Steele and Holden were best friends, so we had a chance to hang with him and Rory more than anyone else.
