Sadly, the Last Book in the Series
Book Summary:
A slow-burn friends-to-lovers standalone featuring Nick from Shortcake.
Note to self: Next time your life falls apart, don’t hobble your broken ass back to your hometown to hide out. You think it will buy you time to glue yourself back together, but it won’t.
Why not?
Nicolas freaking MacGregor.
You remember him, right? Your stepbrother’s best friend. The boy you shared secrets with and maybe-loved once. The boy you asked to be your first kiss. The one who shattered your glass heart into a million pieces. Well, that Nick rents your grandpa’s guest house now. And yep, he still has boundary issues.
FYI, the lanky skater boy with a sweet smile and crooked glasses has turned into a tattooed Viking with a devilish grin and a body of lean-muscled perfection you will not think about. Ever.
You’re wiser now, Riley, so I know you won’t fall for him again. Right?
PS: When he smiles and his cheek creases in that near-dimple way, run.
Mini Review:
If you are looking for the toughest guys with the most tender hearts, then Shortcake and Peanut will be right up your alley.
I don’t know what happened or why but if Lucy Watson ever sees this, please come back!! Her perfect mix of the bruiting male and broken heart/mind is lethal! I thought Ben was a dream and then we meet Nick!
Lucy mentioned she was going to write Mara’s story which I hope crosses over with Jesse but something/someone starting harassing her and she pulled her books and stopped writing. It is such a shame because her slow burns are addictive! Normally I am not the biggest fan because it takes forever for the inevitable to happen but she intertwines so much humor that you find yourself not even caring.
Her female protagonists are fierce, are male protagonists are Gods in the eyes of most women, and none of them are perfect. Even as a single POV, she does a excellent job giving the readers the full story, background that you can’t help but feel for these characters.
Add in the bromance between Nick, Jesse, Ben, and Win along with the Granny Pack that keeps these “youngsters” on their toes and you will understand why I NEED book three!
Nick and Riley’s story reminded me a lot of Sushi and Sea Lions by Rachel Corsini. I’m glad I read that first because I think it helped me connect with Riley’s character as a principal ballerina with a career ending injury. The connection between her and Nick is pure electric and you are on the edge of your seats screaming “For the love of…just kiss her already!”
I am head over heels for Riley. Her hashtags, note to self moments, and overall sarcasm made me feel like I had met my kindred spirit. Add in the anthropomorphizing of the fur babies and it shouldn’t be a surprise that I finishes this book in a day.
Maybe one day/someday Lucy will come back and if she doesn’t, maybe she will re-release Shortcake and Peanut so new romance readers can enjoy them as much as I did.
Here’s hoping.
