I love it when they save the best for last! While Hot as Puck is still my favorite book of the series because you just can’t beat the cuteness of Justin and Libby, this is one gives it a run for its money.

We met Bree in Book 5 as she is Hailey’s baby sister. Her story took a dark turn and created a rift between her sister and Will (which was resolved); however, we learn how she has moved past it and grown stronger from it in this book. We also learn how serious the situation was in Book 5 as she has an allergy that if the attack was successful, could have potentially killed her. 

In Book 6, we join her at her sister’s wedding. We aren’t blindsided about the events that are about to transpire as Book 5 gives us the first chapter lead in of Puck Buddies BUT make sure you read the entire chapter as it isn’t an exact match, Valente did skip a little bit of the chapter in the previous book.

The banter and dynamic between Bree and Shane is what makes this book my (second) favorite. The fact that it doesn’t waste time either and just throws you right into the situation is also much appreciated. Bree wants to lose her virginity but she is allergic to erecto-plasm. A little too much to drink at her sister’s wedding has her following through on her long standing attraction to Shane, asking him if he can do her a “little favor” and help her get rid of her v-card.

Shane has been in love with Bree for as long as he can remember but having lost all faith in anything happening between them, he has decided to following his soon to be former captain across the US to a new team so he can finally break out as the goalie he has dreamed of being. He definitely wasn’t expecting the offer she has placed on the table but understands it is because of his situation that she even considered it or him.

The problem – they both have to fight what is growing between them because they fooled themselves into believing deep feelings were not involved. Bree was not going to fall for the first person she slept with and Shane wasn’t head over heels in love with her so it wouldn’t be an issue.

From there, we are gifted with some of the hottest scenes to date in this series but what I love most is that Valente, again, didn’t waste any time. She used the urgency of “only the summer” to propel the story forward. I did enjoy how she resolved their dilemma that spurred the expected third act break-up – it was creative, sweet, and just made you fall for Shane that much harder.

I am always sad to see a series end but this one was a beautiful wrap up. Throughout each book, we are given more and more glimpses into where people are and what they are doing so by the time you get to Book 6, you are reassured that everyone you grew to know and love in this fun hockey series truly got their happily ever after, and then some!
