There are so many ways to explain my reaction to this book and I can’t decide which one to pick! This is the first time I have read anything by Kennedy Fox and it definitely will not be the last. I have every intention on reading Ryan’s story after surviving Elijah and Cameron’s tale. Yes, I do mean surviving. This story took you everywhere! It was hot, intense, heartbreaking, devastating, exciting, and hilarious! If you weren’t laughing, you were swooning. If you weren’t swooning, you were gasping. The fact that the story covers the past, present, and future gives you a full spectrum of the characters. You feel like you know them, care for them, and understand them in ways you would someone in your own life. Add to it a world that is in complete chaos around them. The story takes place at the start of the pandemic when no one knew what was going on or what to do. Cam’s brother Ryan is a doctor in New York City so we get his take on what’s happening from the inside. Having made it through the pandemic and having had COVID (post vaccination – thank goodness), the story pulls you back to that time, those feelings, that fear. As you are reading the story, you can’t help but relive it in every way (and personally – be grateful where we are now.)

I had no idea what to expect with this story and when Eli made a move at only 12% of the way in, I was a little surprised but knew it was going to be good! The only plot hole I would mention is what happened to Zane?! He sends flowers and apologizes, asking for Cam to take him back after dumping her via text and then that’s it. You never hear from him again. I am assuming it is because of Kendall and the rumors she is spreading but I just felt like that part of the story simply fell off. I did appreciate how much Fox let us in on who Cameron was versus who we believed she was. It made her evolution as a character so much more believable. I can’t wait to read book two and finding out if Ryan really is secretly in love with Kendall and if this cabin is as magical as it seems.
