Shortcake

A (Sexy) Romantic Comedy

Book Summary:

Things Emelia Anderson would rather do than share a house with Benjamin Crawford:

1) Get strapped to a chair in a restaurant full of loud-chewers.

2) Parachute into the Australian Outback armed with only a blowdart.

3) Live her best life as an ice road trucker in the Alaskan Tundra.

Benjamin Crawford thinks Emelia conned his dying grandmother into leaving her half of an estate worth millions, so let’s just say he’s not her biggest fan either. Not even close.

Now they have to live together for the next thirty days while renovating the family home. Or the estate will transfer to the one person Ben hates more than Emelia, and she’ll have to move back to the one place she wants to forget more than Ben.

Did I mention Ben look likes man-candy and smells like testosterone? Not that Emelia notices. She spends a lot of time not noticing things about Ben.

My Review:

I can’t EVEN with this book. Shortcake was just…if Em was a real person, I would beg her to be my best friend. Her witty inner thoughts alone made the book absolutely hilarious!

Non-spoiler summary: Em is a lot of things, she’s short, she feisty, she’s witty, and she can place an IV with her eyes closed. What she isn’t – a person who cons little old ladies out of their money. Unfortunately, Ben doesn’t seem to agree with the latter as he is convinced Em conned his deceased grandmother Rose into leaving her half of his grandmother’s estate. To add insult to injury, Rose has left stipulations that must be followed in order for Ben and Em to claim their inheritance.

This enemies to lovers comedy is brutal. I think I said “They are going to kill each other” more times than I can count.

Spicy factor: The best way to describe the steamy scenes is to imagine something you intensely loathe, with every fiber in your being. Now turn that into lust – yep, that hot!

Trigger: While it isn’t heavily focused on in the book, Lucy does touch on the impact of surviving a horrific incident and the mental impact that can have on the survivor and those around them.

Best Part: Ben’s friends are the icing on the cake! They remind me of the Bromance guys and I absolutely adored them.

Sad news: Per Goodreads, Lucy unpublished the book in July. I am REALLY hoping she brings it back because 1) I love having a physical copy of the books I read and 2) she has a second book “Peanut” that I really want to read now.

I want to at least share the review so if you happen upon it in a bookstore (or fingers crossed, she brings it back) – you can check it out.
