Book #3 of the Hot and Hammered Series
Book Summary:
Hair, makeup, clothing, decor… everything in Bethany Castle’s world is organized, planned, and styled to perfection. Which is why the homes she designs for her family’s real estate business are the most coveted in town. The only thing not perfect? Her track record with men. She’s on a dating hiatus and after helping her friends achieve their dreams, Bethany finally has time to focus on her own: flip a house, from framework to furnishings, all by herself. Except her older brother runs the company and refuses to take her seriously.
When a television producer gets wind of the Castle sibling rivalry, they’re invited on Flip Off, a competition to see who can do the best renovation. Bethany wants bragging rights, but she needs a crew and the only member of her brother’s construction team willing to jump ship is Wes Daniels, the new guy in town. His Texas drawl and handsome face got under Bethany’s skin on day one, and the last thing she needs is some cocky young cowboy in her way.
As the race to renovate heats up, Wes and Bethany are forced into close quarters, trading barbs and biting banter as they remodel the ugliest house on the block. It’s a labor of love, hate, and everything in between, and soon sparks are flying. But Bethany’s perfectly structured life is one kiss away from going up in smoke and she knows falling for a guy like Wes would be a flipping disaster.
Mini Review:
I LOVED this book! I love everything about this book! The witty exchanges, the undeniable connection between the characters, and the updates from past narratives featuring Rosie & Dominic and Georgie & Travis just enriched the entire experience. But let me tell you, Laura, Wes’s niece, stole my heart completely. She was like a little beacon of joy, bringing out the most endearing qualities in everyone, particularly Wes and Bethany, showcasing their caring and protective sides.
The dynamic between Wes and Bethany was the highlight of the story for me. Their interactions laid a solid foundation for a classic ‘enemies to lovers’ tale, and Tessa Bailey excelled in crafting it. Being privy to Bethany’s thoughts, it was astonishing to find her inner struggles with confidence, insecurities, and anxiety. She presented herself as the pillar of strength in “Fix Her Up” and “Love Her or Lose Her,” yet beneath it all, she was performing a carefully orchestrated act, maintaining an image she believed others expected of her. Wes, with his keen perception, saw right through her façade, and their push-and-pull relationship was nothing short of magnetic.
I don’t even need to touch on the spice of this book because if you have read Tessa Bailey, you know what you are going to get but will say “WOW!” What set this book apart was how Wes consciously chose to build a deeper bond and earn Bethany’s trust before reintroducing physical intimacy, which, once back in play – mind-blowing!
The last point I will make is that I have to express my appreciation for Bailey’s approach to male characters. While they exhibit traits of the typical ‘Alpha male,’ they are anything but one-dimensional. Wes, the bull-riding Texan, could intimidate with just a look, yet he carried an internal void. Never feeling like he had a home or anyone in his life who needed him, his history with the foster care system taught him self-reliance above all. So, witnessing his vulnerability when Laura expressed her love for him was profoundly touching and, dare I say, brought a tear to my eye. That little girl really was the cutest!!
